Here are a few simple tips to incorporate daily into your oral health routine to ensure that you and your mouth stay healthy!
1. Brush your teeth at least twice a day
It is no coincidence that you are given a new toothbrush after each hygiene visit. Brushing your teeth is the most important thing you can do to remove plaque from your teeth. Not only will this help prevent cavities, it will keep your gums healthy as well.
Did you know that you miss cleaning 35% of your tooth surfaces if you do not floss? Flossing daily removes plaque and food beneath the gums and in between your teeth that your toothbrush cannot reach.
Rinsing your mouth with an antibacterial, non-alcohol based mouthwash helps to kill plaque and bacteria that brushing and flossing alone do not catch. If you are on the go, rinsing with water can also help flush out bacteria and sugar that may accumulate on your teeth throughout the day.
Chewing sugar-free gum stimulates saliva production. Saliva has a protective and beneficial role in preventing cavities by buffering acid produced by bacteria and remineralizing or strengthening teeth. It also has a role in immune defense, food digestion and lubricating your mouth.
